Somatic Experiencing (SETM) is a body-oriented therapeutic model for healing trauma and other stress disorders. When life brings us experiences that overwhelm our pre-existing capacities to protect ourselves and to cope with challenge, we can get stuck in survival-response patterns of fight, flight, and/or freeze. The SE process releases physical energy accumulated in the body from hard experiences that haven’t been fully processed, thus resolving symptoms related to underlying stress, shock, and trauma. This approach addresses the root causes of trauma symptoms, including PTSD related to acute events as well as developmental attachment trauma and other relational wounds. Ash integrates the Somatic Experiencing approach with her other modalities as needed – always with gentleness, care, and thoughtful pacing so that clients can safely develop increasing tolerance for the sensations, emotions, and narrative material that emerges for the sake of healing. Through this gradual process, layer by layer SE supports us to release what no longer serves us, recover our fuller range of vitality and awareness, and step into our agency and resiliency across all dimensions of our lives.
